Tailoring therapy to fit the needs of the individual
What is Mind-Body Connection Therapy? Mind-body connection therapy is an approach that integrates the mind (emotions, thoughts, perceptions, experiences) with body sensations and responses. This approach can be useful in all types of therapy and has shown great results in treating past trauma responses in the present since many trauma symptoms are experiences felt in the body.
The Lifelong Living Approach: With mind-body connection techniques, we take a holistic/integrative approach to treatment meaning these techniques can be used with many other approaches. We always use these techniques alongside traditional psychotherapy to provide that holistic treatment.
Some examples of mind-body connection techniques include:
Polyvagal Theory: this involves understanding and working with the body’s nervous system (sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. and vagus nerve) and how the nervous system responds to trauma, fear, and stress. With these techniques, we work to regulate your nervous system and develop healthy coping skills.
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Thought Field Therapy (TFT): this involves working with acupressure techniques to release emotional distress and trauma. We work with “tapping” on higher density nerve ending and blood vessel points which can stimulate a physiological response in the body. “Tapping” on acupressure points can help balance the release of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline and release mood-enhancing chemicals like endorphins.
Body-Based/Somatic Therapies that include body awareness training
Breathwork, Mindfulness, and Meditation
Relaxation techniques
